KT Coffee is a large shop behind the big orange Cộng Hòa Vinmart complex. From the outside it appeared to me to be more reminiscent of a Karaoke hall than a café. That wasn’t quite correct, but wasn’t too far off the mark. Take a look at photos on Google Maps and you’ll see that it also houses a large conference/wedding hall, presumably on the upper floor. Also important to note, at least in my weird nerdy mind, is that the décor gives no indication that it is related to the scientifically important K-T boundary marking the end of the Cretaceous Period and the beginning of the Tertiary (evidently, according to this Wikipedia article, the experts now refer to it as the K-Pg Boundary – I guess my paleo-nerdery is in need of an update). In any case, the KT shop is outfitted with plastic chairs outside and well-padded ones indoors. They allow smoking inside, but aside from that it’s a comfortable place to hang out.
The menu isn’t quite as big as it looks, but does include the standard Vietnamese coffee options, teas, smoothies, sodas, and a short selection of instant meals. Prices are reasonable, and you can get a black coffee for just 22,000đ. The coffee was brought to me in a small glass with ice on the side. The coffee itself was slightly frothy, so they may have whipped it a bit before serving. I appreciate the ice on the side, so that I can control how watered down the flavor will get. That flavor was strong, but not otherwise noteworthy. It’s good coffee but not outstanding.
Verdict: Being just the ‘average day’ end of a much larger business facility, KT has a strange vibe to it. I can’t complain much about the coffee or prices, but it was just kind of an odd place that I’m unlikely to return to.
