Might be hard to rub this Buddha's belly - he's in the middle of a big pond

Interested in a nice relaxed restaurant with good coffee? Take a look at The Fig. It’s a heavily stylized shop with the looks of a Buddha-themed garden coffee shop. But rather than specializing specifically in coffee, they serve a wide variety of foods and desserts, and the coffee and tea looks almost like an afterthought on the menu. Nevertheless, most of the clientele is there for their caffeine fix.

Indoors it is filled with low sofa-style chairs and elegant wooden tables, the walls and shelves adorned with various depictions of the Buddha and monks. If you prefer staying outdoors, you’ll be treated to the gurgle of a large lily laden fountain surrounding another large Buddha statue, plus lots of greenery around the perimeter.

Buddha's not vain, but you can check yourself out in the mirror if you ain't him

I’ll let you peruse the food menu if you so desire, but drinks-wise you have the options of Viet coffees (alcoholic and otherwise), teas, yogurts, sodas, chocolate drinks and a pile of smoothies. They’ll also serve you cocktails, beer, and wine if you so desire. A black coffee will run 35,000đ, so it’s not exactly the cheapest option. But the coffee is strong and aromatic, so it’s a nice place to relax.

Coffee: 8/10

Atmosphere: 8/10
Price: 5/10
Verdict: If I’m in the mood for a good meal with my java, I’ll come back. I’m no new-agey Buddhist wannabe, so the theme doesn’t do much for me, but it is at least a quiet place to relax in the middle of the city.
