Cà Phê Nguyễn (not to be confused with Nguyễn Café on Nguyễn Đình Chiểu street) is a relatively large outdoor café across the street from the large Ramana Hotel. The shop does have an indoor section, but the doors are wide open all day long, so you won’t get much reprieve from hot weather in there. It opens onto the busy Lê Văn Sỹ street, so don’t expect it to be very quiet, but they do at least have comfortable seats. Most of the tables are deli-style, so it’s a decent place for a laptop worker. The outdoor portion is also covered during rainstorms, so it’s not a bad place to duck into if it starts raining.
The menu looks large at first glance, but consists of Viet coffees, teas, shakes, juices, beers, and a bunch of soda flavors. They have a small page of food, but it’s mostly just overpriced instant meals. The prices are pretty good, with a black coffee coming in at just 22,000đ and even a cà phê rhum (rum coffee) costing just 30,000đ. I can’t claim the coffee to be the best, but it’s not bad either – just rather average.
Verdict: I really want to like this place more than I do. It’s cheap, nearby, and a nice place to work on mild days, but I’d be more likely to spring for better tasting coffee.
